GET TO KNOW ROWING TERMINOLOGY:
We’re excited to see you in the studio and want you to feel confident when you first sign up for classes, so here’s a cheat sheet on some “Ride & Row” Terminology.
ERG – that’s the rowing machine
CATCH/DRIVE/FINISH/RECOVERY – 4 stages of the rowing stroke
THE SLIDE – as you Row, this is what your seat is moving on
SPLIT – the average time it takes you to row 500 m. You’ll see your time on the monitor and the lower the number the better!
MORE THINGS TO KNOW:
WHAT TO WEAR: More or less same as the cycling classes except your shoes can be regular runners. If you have spd cleats, are the embedded in the soles?
HOW TO ROW: Long and Strong (quicker is not better!)
HOLD ON: Use a light handgrip and ditch your rings.
SIT UP: Engage your abs and make your body tall & your core tight.. no slouching!
GOOD TO KNOW: If it feels too easy then let us know. We will help you work harder. (Hint: You create your own resistance.)
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING…
…HAVE FUN! Don’t overthink it! Everyone can Row no matter what age, size or level of fitness. Keep in mind you are learning something new and it may take time to get it, and then again…you may be doing better than you even realize. Enjoy your new FAMILY at Ride and Row!
